Start with the client’s built-in Theme Mode
Clash Verge Rev includes light, dark, and system-controlled appearance modes. This setting changes the appearance of the client window, not a website’s dark theme or the Rule, Global, and Direct proxy modes. CSS backgrounds and third-party skins found in search results are separate features; you do not need to download files just to switch to dark mode.
This guide covers the actively maintained Clash Verge Rev v2.5.7 official release on Windows 11, for x64 or ARM64, using the English interface. The app must already be installed and able to open Settings. To check the running version, find Verge Version in the Verge Advanced Setting group. Do not apply these menu instructions to the original Clash Verge, Clash for Windows, or other clients.
Before changing anything, note the selected theme. If you normally let the app follow the computer’s appearance, selecting a fixed dark theme means it will remain dark even when Windows returns to light mode. That is not a proxy failure: the two choices serve different purposes.
Switch to Dark in Settings
There is no need to edit a subscription or restart the proxy core. Complete these four steps in the client’s settings:
- Open the Settings page.
- Find Theme Mode in the Verge Basic Setting group. Verge Basic Setting is a section heading, not a button that opens another window.
- Choose Dark from the Light, Dark, and System options. Leave the nearby language and other settings unchanged.
- Wait for the change to finish. Confirm that the interface is dark, Dark remains selected, and no error appears. After a successful switch, continue using the app; there is no separate Save button for this choice.
In v2.5.7, selecting a theme submits the preference and applies the appearance without requiring a restart of Clash Verge Rev or Windows. Unlike some settings dialogs, this control does not require you to open a window and save afterward. Do not keep switching options because you cannot find a Save button.
A color change and a successfully saved preference are not the same check. If an error appears, keep the exact message and check the selected option again. You can also confirm the choice the next time you normally open the app. A change in appearance alone does not prove that the preference was reliably written.
Which should you choose: Light, Dark, or System?
The three buttons determine how the theme is selected; they are not three downloadable skin packs. Choose Dark to keep the app dark, or System if you want it to follow the operating system’s appearance.
| Option | How the appearance is chosen | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Keeps the client in light mode | You do not want it to follow the computer into dark mode |
| Dark | Keeps the client in dark mode | You want a dark interface regardless of the system setting |
| System | Uses the light or dark preference reported to the app by the operating system | You want the client to follow system appearance changes |
With System selected, the app reads the system theme and listens for theme changes. It does not independently schedule night mode around local sunrise or sunset, and it does not follow your browser or the current web page’s colors. If the system has not reported a new theme to the app, evening alone is not a reason to expect the client to turn dark.
To check that following the system works, first confirm that System is actually selected in the client, then observe the window when system appearance changes. Do not mistake a fixed Dark selection staying dark for a failure to follow the system. This guide only covers the client’s choice; it does not require Windows registry edits or third-party theme scheduling tools.
Check unexpected results and restore your previous theme
Return to Theme Mode and check the selected option first. Fixed Light or Dark will not switch with the system; choose System if that is what you want. To return to your previous appearance, select the option you noted before making the change. You do not need to reset every setting or delete the configuration directory.
If the correct option is selected but the window still looks wrong, confirm that your running version matches this guide, then keep any error message and a screenshot of the affected area. When reporting to the official repository, include your Windows version, client version, interface language, current theme choice, and the modes you switched between when the problem occurred. Limit screenshots to the relevant settings so you do not disclose subscription links, node addresses, or other private information.
If you already use custom CSS, these three buttons alone cannot explain every color difference. This guide has not verified your custom styles and does not promise that switching modes will remove them. Distinguish an unchanged interface from a mismatch limited to the title bar, background, or another area before investigating it separately, rather than immediately reinstalling the app.
Select Light to restore a fixed light appearance, or System to restore automatic following. Leave proxy, subscription, and network settings unchanged: an appearance problem does not require switching nodes, bypassing certificate checks, or changing firewall settings.
